Litigation Paralegal- Clearwater

Position Summary
- A Litigation Paralegal is responsible for all aspects and phases of discovery which is a critically important function to the proper handling of litigated matters.
- A Litigation Paralegal will report directly to is directly supervised by the handling attorney on each case file that the paralegal is assigned to.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drafting case specific written discovery requests, specifically Interrogatories, Request for Production and Request for Admissions to be propounded upon the Plaintiff
- Drafting legal objections and factual answers to written discovery served upon the company, specifically responses to Interrogatories, Request for Production, and Request for Admissions.
- Drafting good faith letters to opposing counsel regarding outstanding discovery requests.
- Drafting discovery motions
- Preparing non-party subpoenas for documents and records responsive to subpoenas served upon the company
- Preparing documents to be produced in response to Request for Production and subpoenas
- Drafting responses to Civil Remedy Notice(s) of Insurer Violation
- Drafting Privilege Log(s) and determining applicable privileges over specific documents.
- Interview key witnesses including field adjusters, engineers, contractors, insureds, etc. and assist the handling attorney with preparation for depositions.

- A thorough understanding of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure
- A thorough understanding of the Florida Evidence Code.
- A thorough understanding of all Administrative Orders in effect within each jurisdiction that the paralegal handles.
- A thorough understanding of case law governing discovery in Florida

Minimum Education and Experience Required
- Must hold an Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-approved program, or a Juris Doctorate.
- Must possess one of the following designations:
- Florida Certified Paralegal (FCP), or
- Florida Registered Paralegal (FRP)
- Specialty Certificate in Insurance Law through the NALS is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience working as a paralegal
- At least 1 year of experience with insurance claims. First party property experience strongly preferred.
